I’m still not sure what my final opinion on this album is.
It’s incredible, however it reeks of a band that has been five years removed from their original sound. It sounds like a Shins album yes, however the reality is, it’s not really a Shins album. I’m glad they’ve done the smart thing and adapted their sound to the current style and taste of the scene, however I believe that in the end, people are going to want more of the more acoustic/folk sound that so many people try and try to imitate from years gone by and failed.
This album is a great way for the band to get back into the spotlight, but it’s not going to be what brings back all of their fans. They NEED that old style in at least some of their new material.
